Despite active research in the development of novel treatments for Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) low-disease activity or clinical remission is achieved in 40-50% of patients. Moreover, approximately 50% of those who respond to therapy will relapse on drug tapering or withdrawal. Therefore, the variable rate of treatment response in RA and the fragility of remission may be due to the lack of complete knowledge of the molecular mechanisms promoting inflammation and its resolution contributing to the individual heterogeneity of the disease which is at clinical as well at biological level.
Based on these issues, the aims of this project will be to dissect the clinical and biological heterogeneity of RA, discussing and integrating the data obtained from high-definition dissection of inflammation at joint, extra-joint and systemic levels together with clinical parameters. This approach will provide new insights for the development of a novel integrated management towards precision medicine in RA.
